Nobody knows how important it is to do sports for health. With the understanding of the importance of sports, the number of people doing sports has increased considerably. Some are only interested in sports that require performance while some are regularly walking and jogging. Apart from the activities of daily life, the general name of the problems such as crushing, edema, sprains, fractures, ligament breaks in the muscle and skeletal system while doing sports is “sports injuries”. Injuries are sometimes caused by the person; training without warming up, overloading, and sports with improper difficulty before the muscle and skeletal system develop sufficiently can cause disability. On the other hand, there are environmental factors that cause injuries. For example, factors such as improper sports ground, not choosing clothes correctly, and inappropriate weather conditions can lead to injury. These injuries, which can mostly be eliminated at rest, can sometimes be serious.

The most common injuries are:

Muscle – tendon injuries

Tears and tendon ruptures in the muscle fibers (Achilles tendon ruptures, shoulder rotator cuff tears, quadriceps tendon ruptures, tendon ruptures in the groin, hamstring muscle ruptures)

Ligament and meniscus injuries

Strain, stretching and breaks in the ligaments as a result of sprains and twists in the joints (ankle ligament injuries, internal lateral ligament, external lateral ligament, anterior and posterior ligament injuries, internal or external meniscus injuries)

Cartilage injuries

Knee, elbow, shoulder and hip joints are cartilage injuries in order of frequency.

It is possible to take some precautions to prevent sports injuries. It is the first precaution to obtain information about sports to be done and to obtain appropriate materials. Doing warm-up stretching exercises for about half an hour before starting the sport will add flexibility to the body. Even if there is no previously known discomfort, if you experience extreme fatigue, weakness, heart palpitations, and dizziness during the sport, the sport must be terminated.

The most commonly used method in the treatment of sports injury is arthroscopy. In arthroscopy (closed surgery), in order to examine the problematic joint, an incision smaller than 1 centimeter is thrown into the area and the joint is examined with a pen-sized system and a tiny camera. A liquid is filled in the area for a clear view and swelling of the joint is ensured. This fluid is discharged again after imaging. Arthroscopy is a very preferred method because it provides healing faster. The patient starts physical therapy exercises shortly after the operation and accelerates the healing process. Arthroscopic surgery is widely used in the treatment of diseases involving the knee joint, shoulder, hip, ankle, elbow, and wrist joints.
